Our Board

President – Howard Nadler

President of ISS Canada since 2016, Howard has spent his entire career in the field of social work. He obtained his MA in Social Work from McGill University in Montreal as well as a certificate in Health and Social Services from the same institution. 

With over 20 years of progressive experience in the field of social work, as well as 16 years of supervisory/management experience, Howard has used his expertise to help societies most vulnerable, including the elderly and youth at risk. 

He enjoys spending time with his family, and trips to Barbados. 

 

Board Member – Michaela Bily

Michaela Bily is a Stakeholder relations professional who partners with cross governmental ministries and stakeholder to coordinate and align strategic initiatives and the people behind them. After spending over a decade working in project management of large scale events and initiatives, Michaela knows the importance of challenging the process to ensure the right outcomes are identified while connecting to the people you’re trying to help and communicate your understanding back to them.

Michaela’s passion for social justice and cross sector partnerships have allowed her to  successfully coordinate international events such as The world conference on the prevention of family violence, The Alberta Children’s Forums, Gathering for Success – a national indigenous conference and dozens more. In addition to her extensive PR and marketing experience, Michaela is a trained Facilitator, mentor and enjoys volunteering in a multitude of roles.

Treasurer – Sophie DeLadurantaye

Sophie DeLadurantaye joined the ISS Board of Directors in September 2016, and was elected Treasurer the following year. Fluently bilingual, Sophie holds an MBA from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Ottawa. She holds an executive position at Canada Post as Director – Data and Mail Services within the Commercial Mail line of business, where she leads a team responsible for helping marketers maximize mailing campaign effectiveness with data and analytics tools and services. Passionate about moving the business forward and driving positive customer-focused change, she has held progressively more senior roles across Retail and Digital Channels, Marketing and Product Management.  She also developed and taught Algonquin College's Digital Analytics program. Outside of work, Sophie loves to play volleyball, travel, scuba dive and ski.

 

Board Member – Sonia Ben Soltane
Sonia Ben Soltane is a professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Ottawa. Her work explores different aspects of immigrant integration in France and Quebec with a feminist and intersectional approach.
Sonia graduated in Law and Urban Studies, her doctoral work focuses on the integration of immigrant women in Quebec and France
She has collaborated on a number of research projects on the access of immigrants of permanent or precarious status to social services, health services, as well as citizen participation of immigrants. She has also contributed to the work of several community groups working with vulnerable women and their families

Vice-President- Robin Pike MA RSW

Robin is the Executive Director of Adoption & Pregnancy Counselling

Robin has a 35 year background in child welfare including child protection, adoption planning, and refugee services, within both government and community agencies, and holds a Master of Arts degree in Human and Social Development from the University of Victoria.

Robin joined British Columbia’s Ministry of Children and Family Development in 1999 to develop services for a large group of migrant youth arriving off BC’s coast from Fujian Province, China.

In July 2007, Robin joined BC’s Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General to open Canada’s first government-based Office to Combat Trafficking in Persons. The Office is jointly funded by the Solicitor General and the province’s Child Protection ministry, and is responsible for the development and coordination of BC’s services for trafficked persons across government departments, community agencies, law enforcement, and academia.

Our Team

Director of Services – Sylvie Lapointe

Sylvie J. Lapointe, MSW, RSW is an alumnus of the Université d’Ottawa and is currently the Director of Services at ISS Canada and is among the most experienced and respected ‘international’ social workers in the ISS global network.  She has been working for ISS Canada for over 16 years.  She is also member of the Professional Advisory Committee for the International Network of International Social Service.

Sylvie has a passion for her profession that is evident in the quality of work she offers to social workers across Canada and around the world. Sylvie coordinates casework between Canadian agencies and ministries and the more than 120 countries that make up the ISS global network. Inter-country adoptions, child welfare (abuse, abduction, abandonment) and inter-country kinship placement have been constant issues in her casework. Sylvie is familiar with practices and policies in most Canadian provinces as well as laws and cultural factors that influence social work in other countries.

Sylvie has also had the opportunity to travel to Africa on two occasions. She was part of the mission ‘’A better future is possible’’ in Mauritius (2015 and 2016) and provided training on child protection, child’s rights and adoption in Guinea (July 2017).

In 2014 Sylvie was also awarded a Civilian Citation from the Peel Police Association for her role in the successful return of two Canadian children who had been wrongfully detained by their parent in a foreign country.
